‘Purple Rain’ Musical Headed To Broadway In 2027

Producer Orin Wolf announced that the stage musical adaptation of *Purple Rain* — based on Prince's 1984 film and Grammy-winning album — will premiere on Broadway in spring 2027. Previews begin March 12 at the Majestic Theatre, with opening night set for April 12. The production will feature more than 20 songs from Prince's catalog, including the iconic title track, 'When Doves Cry', and 'Let's Go Crazy'. The creative team has not yet been fully disclosed, but the announcement promises a contemporary staging aimed at both longtime fans and new audiences.

The move marks one of the most anticipated musical adaptations of a classic film property, following the success of *The Color Purple* and *Mrs. Doubtfire* on Broadway. The Majestic, currently home to *The Phantom of the Opera* until its 2023 closure, will be refurbished for the production. With the estate of Prince granting full rights, the creative team is expected to integrate the original narrative of a rising Minneapolis musician with new theatrical elements. Tickets and further casting details are likely to be announced in late 2026.
